Nutritional Counseling
Obesity is not only a growing problem, not just with people in today’s society, but also animals. Virgin Valley Veterinary Hospital recognizes that this is an issue and is taking steps to help their clients keep their pets healthy and maintain a great quality of life. One way that we do this at our clinic is to educate our clients on proper portion control for your pet. Too much pet food is not good for your animal companion. A few extra pounds are not a great issue to a human but to a small dog or cat they can hold huge health implications. Animals suffer from weight-related illnesses such as high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes as well as joint disabilities. The staff at Virgin Valley also stresses the importance of not serving “people” food to animals. Animals do not have the same digestive enzymes that humans have, therefore they will suffer from gastrointestinal issues such as pain, spasms, and diarrhea if they eat foods such as grapes, chocolate, greens and bones from cooked meat.
Virgin Valley Veterinary Hospital carries a variety of foods that are formulated to help your pet get lean and healthy. We also have foods for young animals with the right nutrients for growing, and food for seniors that have extra calcium and vitamins for aging bones and muscles. If you have a pet that suffers from skin and food allergies, we also carry hypoallergenic foods and treats as well as skin care products.
